By regular interaction with believers (followers of Jesus) we want children and their parents to see Jesus and to personally experience His love.

After doing church planting in Mexico for three years, Rod and Christa Schwartz and family felt called to move back to the United States in 2010. Following God's leading, they pursued moving to a city with a growing Hispanic population. They settled in Harrisburg, PA and the Spanish they learned in Mexico served as a useful tool for building relationships with many of their Spanish-speaking neighbors.
In 2013, they started offering Spanish Bible studies in their home, and have enjoyed many hours sharing the Gospel of Jesus with their Hispanic friends and neighbors. A further vision and need was felt to also offer a Bible Club in English for their neighbor children.
As the vision and ministry opportunities grew they sought counsel and help in forming a board for direction and oversight. Through much prayer and seeking God's will, Urban Lighthouse Ministries was born. The Lord worked out the rest of the story by providing staff to assist them in the various outreach opportunities. - Our desire is to interact with and show love to the people in our neighborhood, through that interaction we want to shine the light of Jesus and share His salvation with them.
- Our desire is to see lost people come to faith and we offer Bible Studies to those seeking to know Jesus. We want to be known as a place where people can find help and hope in Jesus.
- Our Spanish church service at Palabra de Vida is Sunday morning at 11:00 and includes a time of praise and worship, children’s Sunday School hour, and a sermon.
- In an effort to see our neighborhood transformed for the Glory of God we hold quarterly street meetings where we sing, preach, testify and pass out water on a street corner.
- We offer a bi-weekly Friday youth night for the young people in our neighborhood. This time includes a short Spiritual challenge as well as a group activity.
- We want to involve the children in community outreach and projects to improve our neighborhood. KEEP VERNON STREET CLEAN!
- Our school, Lighthouse Christian Academy, operates weekdays from 9:00-3:30. Our desire is to use this opportunity to teach both academics and Spiritual truths, equipping this generation to be passionate followers of Jesus.
- We offer VS opportunities for Christian youth and youth groups with the purpose of training in urban outreach, and sharing our vision of seeing more believers move to cities--urban centers.
